Visitor Services and Information Centres
Capricorn Tourism operates five fully accredited Visitor Information Centres (VIC’s), with three in Rockhampton, one in Yeppoon and one in Emerald.
A good centre can mean the difference between visitors just driving through and those choosing to stay, see the local sights and spend in the local economy. Accredited VIC’s are the only information centres able to display the yellow italicised ‘i’ on a blue background. This symbol denotes genuine, high quality Visitor Information Centres. These centres have achieved specific industry standards and are recognised as providing exceptional service and advice.
31 percent of tourists use a visitor information centre to book their accommodation and 39 percent of visitors use a visitor information to find out more about local tours (source: Tourism Queensland, 2009).
Capricorn Tourism’s Visitor Information Centres receive their fair share of tourists with approximately 115 223 people visiting information centres in Emerald, Yeppoon and Rockhampton in 2008.
A significant service offered to members is the booking service operated by Capricorn Holidays, Capricorn Tourism’s travel agency business arm. Capricorn Holidays is a licensed travel agency, offering a one-stop-shop for visitors and catering for telephone, online and walk-in booking enquiries.
Visitors to the centres can plan and book their stay in Capricorn with the assistance of one of our wonderful volunteers or staff members as both centres are licensed travel agencies and can help you find that special restaurant, organise a tour or attraction, or book you into one of our many quality accommodation venues.
Members can also promote their businesses within the VIC’s by displaying brochures, purchasing signage or taking part in our range of consumer specials and packages.
