Rockhampton and Yeppoon Awards Information Sessions – August 2010

Submissions are now open for the 2010 Capricorn Tourism & Economic Development and Ergon Energy Business Excellence Awards! This year’s Awards will also incorporate the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards.

Information sessions are planned for Yeppoon and Rockhampton in early August to guide entrants through the 6 Elements of Excellence. These sessions will be presented by Geoff Higgins of Performance People, designer of the Business Excellence Tool. Julie Tanner will also provide tips on submission writing and the team at Tanner Consulting offer a complimentary review if applicants wish to obtain professional feedback about their application prior to submission.

The Yeppoon session is on Monday 2^nd August from 4:00 – 5:30pm at the Keppel Bay Sailing Club. The Rockhampton session will be held on Monday 9^th August from 4:00 – 5:30pm at Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland, 212 Quay Street. Last week’s announcement by Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett to allow Tower Holdings to proceed with an application for an EIS has been applauded by Capricorn Tourism & Economic Development Ltd.

Chairman Grant Cassidy said “Declaration of the controlled action means the commencement of the rigorous EIS process. While it doesn’t mean an approval for development, it potentially demonstrates Minister Garret’s acknowledgment of the importance of job creation and the tourism industry on the Capricorn Coast.”

“It is important to note that the EIS will include significant community consultation to ensure input from all interested parties ranging from residents to conservation groups and the government.” he said

CEO Mary Carroll said “We are incredibly buoyed by this positive news as the Great Keppel Island Revitalisation Plan will bring significant economic benefits to our region. The EIS process is rigorous and independent and will result in the best possible decision regarding future development on this magnificent island”. she said.

The Rockhampton City Council’s Rocky Flix program continues in July, with the screening of Micmacs, the latest film from celebrated French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet – one of cinema’s most inventive and inspired talents and the creator of Amelie, Delicatessen and A Very Long Engagement.

In his latest film, a man and his friends come up with an intricate and original plan to destroy two big weapons’ manufacturers, and, in the process find answers to the world’s biggest questions.

New and existing exporters are invited to attend the Export Marketing Development Grants workshop in Rockhampton on Monday 02 August 2010 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation conference room – 149 Bolsover Street.

This workshop will cover who is eligible, what is eligible to claim and how to apply for the 2009-2010 year.

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters.

Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including overseas representation (agents), marketing visits, trade fairs, seminars, overseas buyers and inbound tourism.
